Martinez Following the recent break down in talks by the 125 and 250cc team to run the 2008 Kawasaki bikes in 2009, Aspar are working with Dorna, the championship organiser, on a deal to maintain a Kawasaki presence in the series.
Though Kawasaki has yet to confirm their withdrawal, it is expected the manufacturer will announce its exit from MotoGP in the next week.
Martinez, speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, said he is very interested in MotoGP and it is a project that was already in his plans is uncertain if it will happen, but he is willing to continue the discussions.
As he is currently on holiday, Martinez has admitted that Dorna has contacted him and they are in the process of arranging to buy the bikes from Kawasaki.
Discussions about who will ride for the team, a point that lead to the last breakdown in the recent negotiations between Aspar and Kawasaki, is not high on the current list of priorities.
Marco Melandri, who signed to ride for Kawasaki after leaving Ducati in 2008, could be a possible contender for the 2009 ride and is 'very much liked' by Martinez.
If the talks are successful and Martinez chooses to field a two bike team, the other contracted Kawasaki rider, American John Hopkins, together with the funds he would bring from his current energy drink sponsor, could be a welcome proposition.
