F3 : 2010 Norisring - Formula 3 Euro Series - Bottas takes maiden win in Race 2 E-mail

BottasFormula 3 Euro Series - After two victories in the Masters of Formula 3, Valtteri Bottas (ART Grand Prix) finally has scored his maiden race win in the Formula 3 Euro Series at the 2.3 kilometres long Norisring.

The Finn, who was the best placed rookie in last year’s standings, was accompanied on the podium by Marco Wittmann (Signature) and Edoardo Mortara (Signature).

After his seventh podium finish of the season, Mortara remains the points’ leader.

For a few metres, António Félix da Costa (Motopark Academy) led the race, but then, Roberto Merhi (Mücke Motorsport) took over first place.

Soon after that, the Spaniard was overtaken by Alexander Sims (ART Grand Prix), who then led until the 21st lap. Valtteri Bottas overtook him and the Brit also failed to keep Wittmann and Mortara behind him.

Eventually, Sims was classified fourth. In the battle for second place, Wittmann benefited from a mistake by Mortara when the Italian slightly collided with Alexander Sims.

After exciting battles for fifth place, Laurens Vanthoor (Signature) eventually came out on top. Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam) was the best placed rookie in sixth place.

Valtteri Bottas (ART Grand Prix):
“Finally having won my first race in the Formula 3 Euro Series feels great. Now, the next goal is to win a race on Saturday as well. Today, my car was slightly better than yesterday and I drove better today, too.”

Marco Wittmann (Signature):
“I am happy with my pair of second places this weekend. Today’s race was fun. When Edoardo and Alexander Sims tangled, I was able to take the chance and overtake the two.”

Edoardo Mortara (Signature):
“Today, I had some problems with the brakes. I think that I just have to be happy with third place. Moreover, I have to apologise to Alexander Sims. I didn’t want to attack him, but my wheels locked up and I just couldn’t avoid the contact.”
