LMS : 2010 Hungary - Team Farnbacher gains valuable experience in Budapest E-mail

Hankook Team Farnbacher finished in tenth place in the GT2 category at the hard fought six hour race in Budapest.

Dominik Farnbacher and Allan Simonsen started the marathon race on the outskirts of the Hungarian capital from a promising sixth place.

Over the course of the 188 laps, however, the team had to bow down to the high tempo at the front of the field and, primarily, the rough track at the Hungaroring.

While the Ferrari F430 GT once again proved its reliability, two punctures, at least one of which was caused by stray debris, prevented the team from achieving its goal of a top 6 finish.

Horst Farnbacher (Team Principal):
"We tried out some different things today, which unfortunately were not as successful as we had hoped. Oh well, we finished the race and the car ran without any major technical problems. Unfortunately we suffered a puncture as we came through some debris from a crash. That obviously saw us lose quite a lot of ground. However, that does not hide the fact that we were unable to match the lap times at the front of the field. Despite this, we have once again learned a lot here. We will improve again in the next race."

Dominik Farnbacher:
"As expected, it was a tough race. Unfortunately we only managed to finish tenth in our class, but this just goes to show how close the GT2 category is. We were right up there in qualifying, as we were just about as quick as the competition over one lap. However, we were simply unable to keep up with the leaders during the race. The temperatures were very high and the track was very rough. All this meant we had to take great care. Despite this, the team did a very good job and the car was excellently prepared,a as always."

Allan Simonsen:
"Tenth place is definitely not what we had hoped for, but it was simply the best we could manage this time. Dominik and I did our very best, but we were nowhere near fast enough over the race distance. Furthermore, the reliability of all the cars in the GT2 class is generally very high, so you cannot rely on the opposition dropping out due to technical problems. Having said all that, it is a great performance just to finish this challenging endurance race. We should not forget that."
