Formula 3 Euro Series - Having failed to retain his lead all the way to the finish in the first Formula 3 Euro Series’ race at the 5.791km long Circuit Paul Ricard at Le Castellet, Spaniard Roberto Merhi (Prema Powerteam) came good in the second race when he took the spoils from Marco Wittmann (Signature) and Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam).
In the points’ standings, Nigel Melker (Mücke Motorsport) remains on top, although he was classified twelfth in the race following a time penalty.
Roberto Merhi started the race from fifth on the grid, but had already made up his way into third after the opening lap and on lap four, he overtook Marco Wittmann (Signature) to take the lead and went on to cross the finish line with a margin of 0.8 seconds over the German.
In the closing stages of the 20 minute race, third placed Daniel Juncadella closed up on Wittmann, but the Signature driver withstood the pressure.
Nigel Melker, winner of the first race and points’ leader, and Laurens Vanthoor (Signature) both incurred a time penalty because of unsporting behaviour on the track.
As a result, Melker lost his fourth place and was classified twelfth, Vanthoor was relegated from fifth to seventh. Swede Felix Rosenqvist (Mücke Motorsport) inherited fourth place.

Roberto Merhi (Prema Powerteam): “In the second race, my car was really good after we had made a slight mistake in the set-up in the first race. I hope that the season will continue like this.”
Marco Wittmann (Signature): “After race one, in which I only finished fifth, I am now relatively happy with second place. Nevertheless, we still have work to do, because both Prema drivers Roberto and Daniel were really quick again in this race.”
Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam): “I am very happy being on the podium again. In the second race, all the drivers were racing with used tyres and it was already better for us than in the previous race. I wasn’t able to attack Marco in the final stages, because Carlos Muñoz held me up for three laps and because I was having slight gearbox troubles.”
