Former A1GP reserve, Sung-Hak Mun, has confirmed his participation in the 2011 FIA Formula Two Championship and following his category debut at the recent Silverstone and Snetterton 300 tests, becomes first Korean to compete in Formula Two
20 year old Sung-Hak, also known as ‘Tom’, competed in the Formula Renault 2.0 BARC series in 2007 before stepping up to the main UK championship the following year bringing him to the attention of A1GP Team Korea, who added him to their driving strength for the 2008/9 season.
In 2010 Mun joined in the Formula BMW Pacific Championship, recording a podium finish in China on his way to 10th place overall and having made encouraging progress in F2 pre-season testing, Sung-Hak now becomes the first Korean to race in the modern era of F2, and will line up on the grid at Silverstone for the opening round on 16/17 April.
Sung-Hak Mun “In testing I found the Formula Two car very fast and enjoyable to drive. It gave me a lot of motivation and confidence. F2 is a good choice in preparation for Formula One. Silverstone is a technical circuit but I aim to achieve as high a position as possible, and for the rest of the season I want to be within the top ten.”
Jonathan Palmer - Formula Two Series Director “I’m delighted to welcome Sung-Hak into the 2011 championship. He performed very solidly in pre-season testing and made excellent progress at Snetterton, where he often ran in the top 15. The Williams F2 car is a big step up from anything he’s driven before, but thanks to F2’s unique data sharing feature he’ll have every opportunity to close on the pace of the more experienced drivers, and I’m sure he’ll be surprising people as the season develops."
