On the strength of a two tyre pit stop, instead of the regular four, Matt Kenseth pulled away from his Sprint Cup opposition at the Dover International Speedway to lead the final 32 laps on Sunday and take his second victory of the season, added to his win in Texas, becomes the third driver to win twice this year.

When Juan Pablo Montoya spun out in Turn 4 to bring out the final caution flag of the day on Lap 361, Kenseth headed onto pit road behind Bowyer, Edwards and Johnson and in a last second decision, while the car was being raised into the air, suggested to crew chief Jimmy Fennig to change two tyres.

"While I was on the jack, I asked if he was sure we didn't want to try two and he said to put on two. It was really Jimmy's call and just a suggestion by me," Kenseth said.

Fennig, on the other side of the pit wall, was quick to agree: "That was all Matt there. He figured we needed to have clean air and he called two tyres and we did two and away we went."

The regular strategy would be: If track position is good, new tyres are better, which is what Bowyer, Edwards and Johnson thought when they went for the conventional play to bolt on four tyres and with 33 laps to go under green, there should have been more than enough time to use fresh rubber to their advantage.
