MotoGP results of the practice session at the circuit in Assen - San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Marco 'Super Sic' Simoncelli was again the fastest in the morning practice as he followed up Thursday’s performance to lead Repsol Honda's Casey Stoner and Ben Spies on the factory Yamaha in the extended FP2 at the Dutch Iveco TT Assen.

On a dry but cold track, Simoncelli set a fastest lap of 1’36.14, with Australian Stoner just 0.193 of a second adrift, who was in turn 0.260 quicker than the Texan Spies, the entire field went significantly faster than the previous day’s wet practice times.

The reigning champion on the Yamaha Factory Racing bike, Jorge Lorenzo, set the fourth fastest time of 1’36.745, followed by the Ducati GP11.1 of Valentino Rossi who was half a second behind the Spaniard.

Monster Yamaha Tech 3 team-mates Cal Crutchlow and Colin Edwards, both recovering from surgery to repair fractured collarbones, were sixth and seventh, with the 'Iron Man' American just 0.054 behind the Briton.

Early drama at the start of the session saw all three Repsol Honda riders crashing within a three minute period of each other, the three were all able to return to the garage and continue in the ninety minute long practice.

Stoner was the first to rejoin, immediately posting the fastest lap time, only to be bumped down by the Italian Simoncelli at the halfway point in the session.

After visiting to the medical centre, Andrea Dovizioso and Hiroshi Aoyama both followed the Australian, finishing 8th and 15th respectively in the leaderboard.

Rounding out the top ten were Nicky Hayden on the Ducati in ninth, 0.275 behind Dovizioso and Spaniard Toni Elias riding the LCR Honda in tenth with a time of 1’38.276.

Rain began to fall and all the riders returned to the pits to change tyres, only to have the sun come out and the rain clear up for the final 20 minutes affording riders an opportunity to test on both wet and dry tyres.

Weather: Dry | Air: 15ºC | Track: 20ºC | Humidity: 57%
