F1 : Hamilton tops Friday FP1 and FP2 in Canada ahead of Ferrari Formula 1 drivers E-mail

Formula One FP1 and FP2 results following the Friday practice sessions at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit in Montreal.

Lewis Hamilton set the pace in both sessions at the wheel of the McLaren MP4-27 to lead the timesheets ahead of the Red Bull of Sebastian Vettel in the morning 90 minutes and the two Ferrari's of Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa in the afternoon period.

After Heikki Kovalainen's crash into the wall damaging the right side and taking off both of the cars wheels, the FP1 session was red flagged for marshals to clear the track, and after returning the car to the pits the very capable team of Caterham mechanics managed to repair the Finn's CT01-#03 chassis to salvage an hour's worth of running in the afternoon.

Another incident involving the Williams FW34 of Bruno Senna forty five minutes into the ninety brought out a red flag in FP2 after the Brazilian lost control and spun into the 'Wall of Champions' destroying the new curved rear wing on his car.

Fortunately the heavy rain held off till after the sessions ended, unfortunately for the team personnel attending the FIA Friday press conference, the heavy downpour flooded the room with all involved having to shout into their microphones over the drowning noise of the storm.
