Nakano in Jerez top ten, De Angelis gains crucial experience.
San Carlo Honda Gresini riders Shinya Nakano and Alex De Angelis ended up 9th and 14th respectively on Sunday, as the Spanish Grand Prix concluded at the Jerez de la Frontera Circuit.
After a good start Alex lost several positions and ended up in a battle lower down the order, fighting with Melandri and West before coming home 14th. Shinya was matching the times of the second group of riders in the race who were chasing 5th place and was involved in duels with Australian pair Stoner and Vermeulen, before he crossed the line 9th.
Alex de Angelis (14th): “I am not happy about today’s performance. Unfortunately, on the first lap, even though my start was good I got caught up with a group of riders and lost some places which I couldn’t make up. I was trying to make a comeback but kept losing places on the straight. I also felt that the traction control was taking away from my pace and that cost me in the end. It’s the same as in Qatar really and I hope to put things right starting from tomorrow with Bridgestone’s help. They are going to give us some new material that we have not tested before.”
Shinya Nakano (9th): “I made a good start and made up a few places. I was behind the fastest group and I was able to follow them for a while but at around the halfway mark a couple of riders caught me and I lost some ground. At the end I had a fight with Vermeulen and two laps from the end I got past him and was going for the group ahead of me again. Throughout the weekend I’ve been able to constantly lower my times thanks to the work of the team and this leaves me quite optomistic for the next race. Thanks to all my mechanics for their work."
Fausto Gresini – Team Manager: “We are not that happy with the result but at least both riders finished the race. Shinya won his battle with Vermeulen, to get ninth place, which was good. Obviously we expect more of ourselves and we will work hard to achieve better results in the future: results that reflect our potential. We don’t want to stop where we are and therefore hard work awaits us, but that is the job of the team and of the riders."
Nakano entra nella top ten a Jerez, De Angelis accumula esperienza.
I piloti del Team San Carlo Honda Gresini, Shinya Nakano e Alex De Angelis, hanno chiuso il Gran Premio di Spagna, corso oggi a Jerez de la Frontera, rispettivamente al nono e al quattordicesimo posto.
Alex, dopo una buona partenza, ha perso numerose posizioni e il contatto con i primi piloti a causa di una sbandata, ed è stato costretto ad una gara in rimonta. Il sammarinese ha cercato di recuperare posizioni nella fase contrale della corsa, e dopo un duello con Melandri e West, si è piazzato quattordicesimo.
Shinya è riuscito a mantenersi costante sui tempi del secondo gruppo di piloti, che lottavano per la quinta posizione. Dopo un duello vinto con Stoner e Vermeulen, il pilota giapponese è riuscito a giungere nono al traguardo, non distante dal gruppo che lo precedeva.
Alex de Angelis (14°): “Non sono soddisfatto del piazzamento di oggi. Purtroppo, al primo giro, nonostant e la buona partenza ho perso molte posizioni durante la bagarre con gli altri piloti e ho fatto fatica a recuperare. In staccata riuscivo a superare i piloti che mi precedevano ma sul rettilineo venivo di nuovo raggiunto e superato. Questo, aggiunto al controllo di trazione, che rallenta il ritmo quando la moto scivola, mi ha penalizzato moltissimo per tutta la gara. La stessa situazione si era già creata in Qatar e spero di risolverla già da domani con l’aiuto della Bridgestone, che farà arrivare ai test delle nuove gomme, diverse da quelle che abbiamo testato finora.”
Shinya Nakano (9°): “Oggi sono riuscito a partire bene, guadagnando alcune posizioni. Ero in una buona posizione dietro al gruppo dei piloti più veloci e ho provato a inseguirli; ad un certo punto, però, verso la metà della gara alcuni piloti mi hanno superato facendomi perdere un po’ di terreno. Nel finale ho lo ttato con Vermeulen e passandolo a due giri dalla fine, chiudendo nono e raggiungendo uno dei miei obiettivi: mantenere il passo con i piloti del secondo gruppo. Durante questo weekend sono riuscito a migliorare costantemente i miei tempi grazie al lavoro svolto da tutta la squadra e questo mi lascia ben sperare per la prossima gara: ringrazio tutti i miei tecnici per quello che hanno fatto.”
Fausto Gresini – Team Manager: “I risultati della gara non ci soddisfano; se non altro, di positivo c’è il fatto che abbiamo portato a termine la gara con entrambi i piloti. Shinya è riuscito a vincere il duello con Vermeulen, concludendo al nono posto. Ovviamente ci aspettiamo di più e lavoreremo sodo per raggiungere risultati migliori: quelli che rispecchiano il nostro potenziale. Non vogliamo fermarci dove siamo e quindi ci aspetta un duro lavoro da svolgere, ma questo è l’obiettivo di tutta la squa dra e dei piloti.”
